Bronze Sculpture
This knocker tells the story of Wood Engraving. That's my hand (life cast) holding one of my engraving tools. My arm is cast from a log of boxwood which is the ideal wood for the engraving blocks and very rare. Most blocks today are made of Rock Maple or a synthetic material called Resingrave. The strike plate is cast from a slice or end grain of a tree. Blocks for wood engraving are cut on the end grain. Wood Cuts are done on the plank.
I have a print of Knock On Wood in the Wood Engraving gallery that I used for the invitation to a show at the time featuring the bronze door knocker.
